Major rush-hour delays on the 2 and 5 subway lines due to person struck by train

Subway service was partially suspended on the 2 and 5 lines during the morning rush hour on Wednesday as police responded to a person struck at the Third Avenue-149th Street station in the Bronx.

NYPD and MTA officials said the incident happened just before 6 a.m. and according to police, no criminality was suspected.

There was no 2 service running between the Bronx and Manhattan, as well as no southbound service between the Jackson Avenue and 135th Street stations and no northbound service between the 135th and East 180th street stations. Most southbound 2 trains were ending at East 180th Street, while northbound trains were ending at stops at or below Harlem-148th Street, according to the MTA.

On the 5 line, there was no southbound service between the Jackson Avenue and 149th Street-Grand Concourse stations and no northbound service between 149th Street-Grand Concourse and East 180th Street. Most southbound 5 trains were ending at East 180th Street and northbound trains were ending at 149th Street-Grand Concourse.

Transit officials said service between the Bronx and Manhattan had resumed as of shortly after 8 a.m., but they still recommended that people take the 1, 4, 6, B and D trains as alternatives to get between those boroughs.

The MTA also reported various delays on the A, C, N and W lines.
