NYPD releases new images of suspected CEO assassin in taxi as he fled NYC

The NYPD on Sunday released new images of the man suspected of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and continue to ask the public for help identifying the killer.

The image depicts the alleged shooter sitting in the back of a taxi wearing a facemask and a black hood over his head. He looks directly at the camera. A second image shared by the police shows the man standing outside the vehicle.

The NYPD says the images show the suspect at around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, less than an hour after he killed Thompson outside the Hilton Hotel on West 54th Street. Police say the man fled the scene of the crime on an electric bicycle. They say he rode into Central Park, and then took a taxi to the George Washington Bridge bus terminal before cutting town.

NYPD representatives did not say whether the images were taken from a yellow taxi or a for-hire vehicle.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told CNN in an interview on Friday that detectives had determined the shooter fled the city shortly after the shooting. He arrived in the city on a bus 10 days before the killing, according to police

Thompson was on his way to a UnitedHealthcare investors meeting at the Hilton Hotel in the moments leading up to his assassination. Police said the bullet shell casings found at the crime scene had inscriptions, including “deny” and “defend,” which may internet users believe to be a reference to the 2010 book “Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It” by Jay M. Feinman.

The NYPD is offering a $10,000 reward to anyone with information that will lead to the suspect’s arrest. Now that officials believe the individual crossed state lines, the FBI has also offered its own $50,000 reward.
