It’s Monday morning in New York City, where Mayor Eric Adams’ recent comments have reignited debate over our sanctuary laws.
Here’s what else is happening:
- There’s a new luxury apartment building in Brooklyn for couples with no children featuring amenities like a pilates studio and dog spa.
- Mayor Adams celebrated the 200th anniversary of Fifth Avenue with a block party and giant cake which toppled over and turned into a sugary mess as workers scrambled to salvage it before the photo opps.
- Juan Soto is leaving the Yankees, but will still be playing for New York, under a 15-year, $765 million dollar contract with the Mets.
- Western-themed fast food chain Roy Rogers is banking on the public’s renewed interest in cowboys thanks to shows like “Yellowstone” by opening a new location in South Jersey.
- For a period of more than eight months beginning in July 2023, New Jersey state troopers were writing far fewer traffic enforcement tickets after the release of a report that found racial disparities in their policing. That dramatic decrease in citations coincided with an uptick in vehicle crashes, the New York Times found.
- It’s been almost a year since the MTA said they’d fix the trains to prevent vandals from breaking into crew cabs, yet the agency has only upgraded three lines with locks on worker compartments.
