• People are writing negative Google reviews about the McDonald’s where Luigi Mangione, the man accused of shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was arrested.
• New Jersey is the latest state to ban book bans after Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation yesterday that prevents public and school libraries from excluding books “because of the origin, background, or views of the material or of its authors.”
• Lawmakers on Long Island are calling for refunds on the $100 administrative fee for red light camera tickets after a court found them to be illegal.
• New York’s Puppy Mill Pipeline Act, which will stop the sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in retail stores, is scheduled to go into effect in just a few days, but some pet advocates are seeking an injunction against the law, arguing it will create a dangerous black market for the animals.
• Poet, activist and author Nikki Giovanni died yesterday at the age of 81 after her third cancer diagnosis.
