Illinois Farm Bureau completes annual meeting

CHICAGO — Delegates of the Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) finished their deliberations of policy resolutions early Monday evening during their annual meeting.

IFB President Brian Duncan received some inquiries about the outcome of two votes, which were defeated. The first motion pertained to how the office of vice president was treated, a resolution brought forward by the IFB Board of Directors to be compliant with federal law.

The other motion was a result of a resolution brought forth by the IFB delegation body courtesy of the Kane County Farm Bureau, which called to change the terms of president and vice president to single-year terms compared to the current two-year term for each officer.

There was an effort earlier in the meeting to remove Duncan from his role as president. However, it failed a vote to be put on the meeting agenda.

The removal effort came as the result of two decisions: IFB affiliate Country Financial decided that as of January 1, 2025, they will not require an Illinois Farm Bureau membership to purchase non-farm insurance, and a decision from the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) made last month to remove IFB from its organization, which is a result of the Country Financial decision.

The latter is to be heard before a McLean County courtroom on December 18. A court order could potentially invalidate AFBF’s notice to IFB that their day as a recognized charter member is December 20.
