Police say the person suspected of killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson may have left New York City shortly after the fatal shooting.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny made the comments in an interview with CNN Friday.
Kenny said police believe the suspected gunman rode on a bike from Sixth Avenue after shooting and killing Thompson.
They said the yet unidentified shooter fled the scene in front of a Hilton hotel, went into Central Park and left the park near 77th Street. Kenny said police have footage of the suspect traveling further on foot before eventually taking a taxi to the Port Authority.
There’s no video of the suspect leaving the Port Authority, he told CNN.
“Those buses are interstate buses. That’s why we believe he may have left New York City,” he said.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
