NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that the gun and fingerprints recovered from a man captured in Pennsylvania match those used in last week’s killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
“We were able to match that gun to the three shell casings found in Midtown at the scene of the homicide,” she told reporters at a press conference in Staten Island on Wednesday.
Luigi Mangione, 26, has been accused of assassinating Thompson outside of a hotel in Midtown on Dec. 3. He was apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania Monday after nearly a weeklong manhunt and was charged with murder.
Tisch said Mangione’s fingerprints matched those found on the water bottle and snack wrapper found near the crime scene.
