President Joe Biden is scheduled to be in Staten Island on Monday evening, so New Yorkers can expect some extra traffic during what’s already the most-congested season of the year for local drivers.
Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will leave JFK Airport in Queens for Staten Island’s Miller Field at 5:15 p.m., and then at 5:30 p.m. will head to a “Friendsgiving” event with the U.S. Coast Guard at Fort Wadsworth, according to a copy of his schedule published by Roll Call.
According to a statement by Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, Father Capodanno Boulevard will be closed from roughly 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fossella didn’t specifically mention Biden’s visit, but the boulevard is one of the main arteries between Miller Field and Fort Wadsworth.
Park-and-ride locations along Father Capodanno Boulevard were also closed starting on Sunday evening and will reopen on Tuesday, Fossella said.
He warned other roads, including Hylan Boulevard and Richmond Road, could also be affected by traffic changes.
The St. George Ferry will run on its normal 15-minute schedule after 3 p.m., Fossella said, adding, “You may want to consider any and all options this Monday.”
The Bidens are expected to leave the event just before 8 p.m. and will fly out of JFK back to Washington, D.C., shortly thereafter, according to the president’s schedule.
